Mary first joined GMRI in 2013 as an intern with the Fisheries Technical Assistance Program and returned to become Project Coordinator for the team in 2015. In her role, Mary does outreach and provides technical assistance to New England fishermen within both the commercial and recreational fleets.
Mary received her B.A. in marine science from the University of Hawaii (Hilo) and her M.A. in marine affairs from the University of Rhode Island. Her master’s thesis research focused on fishermen-scientist relations in Maine, in an attempt to better understand the barriers to creating successful cooperative partnerships in fisheries science and management.
Mary grew up on Maine’s coast, where she developed a passion for the communities and ecosystem of the Gulf of Maine. As much as she loves Maine, she also enjoys travel – having explored Russia, Southeast Asia, and Central and South America.
