The Gulf of Maine Research Institute has established itself as an effective convenor within the highly charged arena of natural resource conflicts related to aquatic resources. We have forgone advocacy in order to provide a unique neutral forum to discuss aquatic resource management challenges within the Gulf of Maine and its watershed.

Within this neutral forum, all manner of unexpected events occur. Bitter opponents warm up to each other. They learn about each other's families, businesses, hopes, and fears. They develop collaborative research initiatives and produce missing data that all parties trust. The conflict evolves into a search for a pragmatic solution to a complex problem.

Cooperative Research in the Northeast

Dear Collaborative Research Partner:

We are pleased to present the Cooperative Research in the Northeast: A Strategic Direction for 2010 2014, which outlines several recommendations for the Northeast Cooperative Research Program (NCRP).

This report is a result of stakeholder input from constituents from Maine to North Carolina and discussions among key staff members of the New England Fisheries Management Council, the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council, Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, Northeast Regional Office and the Northeast Fisheries Science Center. Thank you for participating in this process and adding your insight and advice to the final product.
