![]() | The Gulf of Maine Research Institute’s Community programs encompass public outreach efforts ranging from technical support for the industry as they work through complex management initiatives to opportunities for the public to engage in marine issues by attending our public lecture series. We strive to provide additional opportunities to engage the interested public in the marine issues that we find so compelling. The Sector Extension Program provides extension services to the fishing industry. Sectors are a new management tool providing an opportunity for self-selecting members of a fishery to contractually agree to share a portion of the total allowable catch. GMRI was asked by members of the fishing community to provide assistance to groups navigating the complex administrative requirements of sector formation. Our continuing Public Lecture Series is a unique educational opportunity, bringing the world-renowned experts of our region and beyond to GMRI for one evening each month. Past topics have touched on right whales, bluefin tuna, climate change and the future of the cod fishery. We hope you’ll join us as we continue exploring the diversity of the Gulf of Maine ecosystem. |
