Virtual Science Cafe

Science Cafe
4:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Virtual - Zoom

We are happy to release the second edition of our Virtual Science Cafe. Please join us on Thursday, May 14th to participate in a casual discussion with a GMRI expert from the comfort of your home! We'll cover topics around our current research, education programs, and community initiatives. Grab a drink or snack and join us in conversation.

Dr. Andrew Pershing, GMRI's Chief Scientific Officer, and Climate Change Ecologist will join us on Thursday, May 14th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm for our next Virtual Science Cafe. Andy studies the impact of climate change on ecosystems like the Gulf of Maine. He will share insights into how models are used to tackle gnarly problems like climate change and the coronavirus, and together we will discuss the challenges of making decisions based on projections of the future.

About the Speaker

Andy took over as GMRI's Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) in 2014 and runs the Climate Change Ecology Lab. His research focuses on the causes and consequences of changing conditions in the Gulf of Maine, and he is an expert on how climate variability and climate change impact the ecosystems in the Northwest Atlantic. He uses a variety of techniques, including analysis of past changes in the physical and ecological conditions, as well as advanced mathematical and computer models of how marine populations change through time.He is actively involved in regional efforts to understand and adapt to climate change and was the lead author for the “Oceans and Marine Resources” chapter of the 4th US National Climate Assessment.

We will host this virtual event via the Zoom video conferencing platform. Register below and the Zoom Meeting Info will be sent to you via email prior to the event.
