In Recognition of a Friend and Supporter: Nancy ‘Nan’ Sawyer
Nancy “Nan” Sawyer, one of GMRI’s most ardent supporters, passed away July 4.
A dear friend to GMRI’s staff, Nan spent many years as a school teacher before moving to Portland and becoming a prominent real estate broker. Throughout her two-decade relationship with GMRI, she displayed an unwavering and inspirational passion for the character and the economic development of Maine’s communities. In a final demonstration of her support, Nan generously bestowed GMRI with its first estate gift.
“Nan was a true optimist well into her eighties who was always pushing us to be better and to do more for our community,” said Blaine Grimes, GMRI Chief Development Officer. “It’s fitting that even through her parting gift to GMRI, she was leading the way.”
