Join GMRI to think about extending the learning from the LabVenture experience around climate and ecosystem change back into your classroom

Extending LabVenture in the Classroom (Portland Public Schools)

We love hosting you and your students here at GMRI for the LabVenture program in our Cohen Center for Interactive Learning, and we have been thinking hard about how we can better support you all.

This year we offer you an opportunity to come together with us here at GMRI to think about extending the learning from the LabVenture experience around climate change and ecosystem change back into your classrooms. We have tee’d up three Tuesday afternoons 4-6pm in January for us to learn and plan together before you and your students come to LabVenture this spring. We will include space for conversations throughout the series about how best to support all learners, particularly English language learners.

Here’s what we have planned for all those who would like to join:

January 10, 4-6pm -Experience the LabVenture visit and discuss ideas to support your learners to be prepared for the program

January 17, 4-6pm - Experience and discuss lessons ideas to support learners before you come to LabVenture

January 24, 4-6pm - Explore Lessons and resources to extend the learning after the LabVenture visit

January 31, 4-6pm - Snow date and optional planning time. If we need to use this because of snow, we have it. If we get lucky with weather, we will reserve the space and time for anyone who wants to come plan together with us at GMRI.

Benefits of Participation

  • There will be time to learn and plan with the GMRI team and your colleagues for how to extend learning about climate and ecosystem change back to your classroom.
  • We value your time! There is a $75 stipend per session
  • Brains work best when we are fed. Expect snacks and light dinner.

This series is open to all Portland fifth grade teachers! We hope to see teams from each school. Looking forward to it!
