Kaya Williams

LabVenture Educator

Kaya Williams joined GMRI as a LabVenture Educator in March of 2018 where she guides middle school students through interactive lab lessons in the Cohen Center that teach them about the scientific process and what's happening in the Gulf of Maine.

Prior to GMRI Kaya attended Colby College where she studied Environmental Policy and focused on marine sciences and policy. The experience she brings to this position ranges from studying at the School for Field Studies Turks and Caicos location to environmental teaching with the Sustainable Ocean Studies (a month-long summer program teaching high school students about the economic, ecological and cultural impact of Maine fisheries), and a program she co-ran at Colby called Environmental Educators, where she taught hands-on lessons about various environmental issues and concepts to middle school students.

Her love for the ocean is no surprise when you find out she received her SCUBA certification when she was ten years old, and more recently got her next level of certification which allows her to go down to 100ft!
