Katie Giannakopoulos
Coastal Dynamics Research Associate
Katie joined GMRI’s Climate Center as a Coastal Dynamics Research Associate in August 2024. Her work focuses on understanding sea level rise and other coastal hazards from the perspective of atmospheric phenomena and a changing climate.
Before her time at GMRI, Katie received both her B.S. and M.S. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma and a minor in Mathematics. In her graduate studies, Katie focused on extreme events, researching the large-scale atmospheric drivers of rapid and intense temperature swings in the United States Southern Plains. This work was part of a National Science Foundation EPSCoR project, where she collaborated with other graduate students, scientists, and stakeholders across Oklahoma, deepening her appreciation for interdisciplinary research that directly impacts the community.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach, and watching Oklahoma football.
