Lucy Barrett
Senior Manager, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, GMRI
Lucy joined GMRI as a Senior Associate for Gulf of Maine Ventures in support of Chief Ventures Officer Blaine Grimes, in September of 2021. In this role, she supports Blaine across all functions of the Ventures program, the mission-based investment and business development services of GMRI. Their goal is to catalyze solutions to global ocean challenges through investments in innovative companies within the Blue Economy.
Prior to working at GMRI, she worked at Kenyan-based technology startup Apollo Agriculture — a commercial farming platform for small-scale farmers that uses machine learning and automated operations technology to help them access everything they need to maximize their profitability, from financing and insurance, to farming products and optimized advice. She managed Investor Relations (fundraising, diligence, and reporting) and Sustainability (including developing their ESG and impact framework).
Before Apollo, she managed partnerships and program delivery (primarily for STEM and corporate partnerships) for Earthwatch Institute, a global environmental non-profit.
Lucy graduated from Bates College in 2015 with a BA in Environmental Studies and a focus on International Relations and Social Justice.
She is also an experienced traveller, having worked in several places around the globe — including longer stints in Fiji, Argentina, The Netherlands, and Kenya. She recently moved back from Amsterdam, and is looking forward to calling Portland, Maine her new home!
When she's not in the office, she likes to spend as much time as possible outdoors — hiking, trail running, gravel biking, skiing, and taking lots of walks with her husband and crazy dog!
