Fisheries Technical Assistance Program Manager

Our Fisheries Technical Assistance Program (FTAP) provides a range of technical, convening and innovation services to New England’s commercial fishing industry to promote the long-term prosperity of local fisheries and fishing communities. In 2019, the program team made progress across the major initiatives conducted in support of these goals.

Fisheries Technical Assistance Program Manager Heather Cronin holds a phone up to her ear as she investigates wiring on the underside of a platform on a boat. Different colored wires tangle downwards behind her.
In this video, former Technical Programs Manager Mark Hager introduces and explains electronic monitoring — a system of cameras and computers mounted onboard fishing vessels. This suite of technology could replace the majority of human observers, who currently monitor catch data.
