Intertidal Crabs Fall Field Season

Connect with professional and community scientists working together to monitor intertidal crabs in the Gulf of Maine.

Intertidal Crabs Fall Field Season

How do populations of Asian shore, European green, and native crabs compare up and down the coast of the Gulf of Maine? Are crab populations changing over time and in response to warming temperatures? Where will Asian shore, European green, and native crabs be most abundant in the future?

Participate in the Intertidal Crabs Field Season with your students this fall and become part of the effort to answer these questions. We will kick off the field season with a live virtual conversation with lead scientists, Marissa McMahan and Elizabeth Stephenson. We will then all go out, make observations in the intertidal zones up the coast, and submit our data. To wrap-up the season, we will have another chance to come together as a project community where students from all over the region will have a chance to discuss their findings with the project leaders and each other.

Field Season Launch: Tuesday, October 1st at 9:30 a.m. - share observations with professional and community scientists on Zoom

In between virtual sessions - Prepare, collect, and contribute data in your area, using the curriculum resources from GMRI.

Field Season Wrap-Up: Thursday, November 7th at 9:30 a.m. - share observations with professional and community scientists on Zoom
