Gulf of Maine Research Institute Appoints Elizabeth Scott as Chief Development Officer

Former New England Aquarium fundraising leader to join GMRI executive team.

PORTLAND, Maine (March 17, 2025) — The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Scott as its new Chief Development Officer. In this executive leadership role, Scott will be responsible for shaping and executing GMRI’s fundraising strategies to support its mission of developing and delivering collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges. She brings more than twenty years of development experience, specializing in major and principal gift fundraising.

“Philanthropy is a critical component of our strategy to ensure the ecosystem, economy, and communities of the Gulf of Maine region thrive amid rapid change,” said GMRI President and CEO Glenn Prickett. "Elizabeth has extensive experience and proven track record leading successful development teams for environmental organizations, and we’re delighted to welcome her."

Scott is an energetic executive and collaborative leader with a demonstrated history of securing new and increased gifts through building long-term relationships. Most recently, she served as the Vice President of Development at the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA, where her team-building and strategic growth efforts led to significant revenue growth.

Prior to her role at the New England Aquarium, Scott held several significant development positions at The Nature Conservancy, including her role as Director of Development in Boston, MA. During her tenure, she expanded major donor engagement, led a high-performing team, and played a key role in a record-breaking fundraising year. She also contributed as a member of the steering committee for The Nature Conservancy’s $7 billion One World Campaign.
