Jeanne Brown
Director, Marine Resource Education Program
Jeanne joined the MREP team at GMRI in October 2024. Her experience with research, conservation planning, and implementation of resource management strategies for coastal and marine communities and ecosystems spans New England, the West Coast, the Caribbean, Alaska, and the Philippines where she served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer. She has held positions with the Maine Department of Marine Resources for the inshore trawl survey and later moonlighting as a lobster sea sampler during graduate school, New York Sea Grant, The Nature Conservancy in the Caribbean, UMass Amherst with the Northeast Climate Adaptation Science Center, and most recently with the Wildlife Conservation Society’s global marine program.
She has dual marine biology and marine policy master’s degrees from UMaine Orono and a marine biology bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Cruz. She enjoys swimming, snorkeling, and diving (tropical waters preferred!), canoeing, gardening, skiing all ways, travel, and taking to the trails with family and dog.
